Genre: Contemporary Satire Suggested Rating Equiv: PG Length: 45 min
Set against the nostalgic backdrop of Mahalaya, this contemporary satire follows Arup, a man in his mid-50s living far away from his homeland, haunted by memories he cannot escape. As the sounds and spirit of the festive season draw near, Arup is pulled back into the turbulent lanes of old Kolkata — a world filled with warmth, community, and buried trauma.
Through fragments of memory, he reunites with his affectionate sister Shiuli, their spirited neighbors, and an ordinary neighborhood struggling to survive under the shadow of rising political violence. What begins as recollection gradually unfolds into a sharp and unsettling portrait of street-level criminalization, where local politics morphs into intimidation, fear, and social decay.
Blending humor, irony, and emotional depth, the play examines how everyday lives become entangled in the machinery of political hooliganism. At once deeply personal and socially relevant, this modern satire reflects on memory, loss, and the lasting scars left behind by a culture of normalized violence.
